This case study highlights a pivotal collaboration where we had the privilege of transforming the outdoor play area at MOTO Stafford Northbound, a project that embodies our dedication to natural playground design, high-quality craftsmanship, and sustainable materials.

The Vision: Enhancing Outdoor Experience

Every successful project begins with a clear vision. For MOTO Stafford Northbound, the goal was to rejuvenate their outdoor play area, creating a more engaging, safe, and inspiring environment for children.

Our Solution

Following our 4-step process – Vision, Creative Design, Installation, and Aftercare – we collaborated closely with the client to ensure the final playground met every aspect of their brief.

Step 1: Your Vision

We began with an in-depth consultation to understand MOTO Stafford Northbound’s vision for a family-friendly play space that would enhance customer experience while promoting sustainability and inclusivity.

Step 2: Creative Design & Sustainable Solutions

Our design team created a bespoke plan, integrating robinia hardwood timber –renowned for its strength, natural durability, and eco-friendly qualities. This ensured the playground would not only be long-lasting but also seamlessly blend into its surroundings.

Key features of the project included:

• Robust Timber Fencing with a Commercial Entrance Gate
  To define the play area, enhance security, and provide a clear, welcoming entry point, we installed a new timber fence complemented by a commercial entrance gate. This element falls under our expertise in landscaping, groundworks, and fencing, creating safe boundaries for active play.
• Engaging Robinia Basket Swing
  We incorporated a robinia basket swing, featuring a 1M basket swing. The choice of hardwood Robinia timber underscores our commitment to natural and sustainable materials, known for its strength and longevity. This piece of active play equipment encourages collaborative play and sensory experiences, catering to various age groups and abilities.

• Dynamic Multislide Climber Unit (Robinia Timber)
  The centrepiece of the active play zone is a comprehensive multislide climber unit, also constructed from hardwood Robinia timber.

This unit is designed to maximize physical activity and imaginative play, offering a diverse range of challenges and features:

• Tubular curved slide (1.5m)
• Straight slide (1.5m)
• Log climber (1.5m)
• V-bridge
• Climbing panel with blocks (1.5m)
• Firefighter pole (1.5m)
• Crawling tunnel
• Net climber (1.5m)
• 3x platforms with robinia roof (1.5m)

This rich array of features creates open-ended opportunities for children to express themselves freely, fostering physical development, problem-solving skills, and social interaction within a safe and creative play environment.

Our Solution

1. Robinia Tower

The centrepiece of the play area is a stunning Robinia Tower, designed with a subtle castle theme to capture children’s imaginations. This feature includes:

• A bubble window for creative play and interactive views.
• HDPE stainless steel slide for durability and endless fun.
• Log ramp with armoured rope for balance and climbing challenges.
• Two platforms with Robinia roof offering multi-level play opportunities.
• Armoured rope netting and timber ladder to encourage strength and coordination.
• Wobbly bridge and drawbridge opening to spark imaginative role play.

The design blends storytelling and physical activity, providing an engaging play experience that children love.

2. Robinia Benches

To complement the playground’s natural aesthetic, we designed Robinia wood benches in the same theme as the tower. These provide a comfortable seating area for parents and carers, encouraging longer visits and family bonding.

At Precision Timber, we choose Robinia wood for its:

• Natural strength and durability
• Excellent resistance to decay
• Sustainability as a responsibly sourced material

3. Timber Picket Fence

We installed a 10.5m timber picket fence with 1.2m height and seven sturdy timber posts. This fencing ensures safety and enclosure for the play space while maintaining an open, welcoming look that blends seamlessly with the outlet’s surroundings.

4. Wet Pour Safety Surfacing

A critical part of the project was ensuring the playground met the highest safety and accessibility standards. We used Wet Pour Safety Surfacing for its many benefits:

• Cushioned, impact-absorbing surface to reduce fall injuries
• Long-lasting and weather-resistant
• Seamless, wheelchair- and buggy-friendly design
• Promotes inclusivity so every child can enjoy safe play

The Impact: A Thriving Family Destination

Since its launch, the Cotswolds Designer Outlet play area has become one of the most integral parts of the outlet. It successfully fulfills its purpose by providing a dedicated, safe, and exciting place for play, fun, and family bonding, significantly enhancing the overall visitor experience and establishing the outlet as a true family-friendly destination.
